What is the Fabio Köhler Fine Arts Academy?
The Fabio Köhler Fine Arts Academy emerged from the ongoing artistic and pedagogical practice of Fabio Köhler.
It is neither a traditional art school nor a bureaucratic institution, but an author-led educational approach, guided directly by an actively working artist.
The Academy positions itself consciously between two extremes in contemporary art education:
– on one side, strictly academic models focused primarily on technical reproduction;
– on the other, conceptual approaches that often neglect fundamental drawing skills.
Within the Academy, drawing is understood both as a fundamental tool for understanding the visible world and as a means of personal artistic expression.
Pedagogical Foundations
The teaching is based on the following principles:
• Direct observation as the foundation of all artistic learning
• Drawing as a structure of visual thinking
• Geometry and perspective as tools to understand space and form
• Light and shadow as the origin of painting and color
• The human figure as a synthesis of form, movement and expression

An Academy led by an artist
The Fabio Köhler Fine Arts Academy is fully directed by Fabio Köhler.
This is a conscious decision.
The aim is not to create a standardized educational institution, but to maintain artistic coherence, pedagogical depth and a clear vision.
Throughout much of art history, knowledge has been transmitted directly from master to student — in active studios, through observation, practice and continuous dialogue.
The Academy follows this principle:
a personal and direct form of teaching, oriented toward the individual development of each student — not toward mass production or formal certification systems.

The Academy currently offers in-person courses in Freiburg (Germany), with a strong focus on observational drawing and working from the live model.

Participation is confirmed with a certificate from the Academy.
In-person teaching and online development
Working from the live model and direct observation cannot be fully replaced by digital formats.
Physical presence, shared studio space and the direct experience of form, light and movement are essential elements of artistic learning.
For this reason, in-person teaching forms the core of the Academy.
In the future, additional online content and recorded courses will be developed to expand access to this knowledge.
These formats are intended as a complement — not a replacement — for studio-based practice.
